NVQ Level 2 Hairdressing

City & Guilds NVQ Level 2 is one of the most recognised qualifications in the industry. Achieving this through an apprenticeship will give you the best start in your career as a hairdresser.  The course and its content are spread over 14 months. We encourage everyone who completes this course to progress onto further training and the NVQ Level 3. Hairdressing is an ever changing industry and this course is an ideal stepping stone to a satisfying career as a stylist.

Course Criteria:

  • The course will consist of theory and practical training alongside work experience in your salon

As part of your apprenticeship you will cover:

  • Employment Rights and Responsibilities (ERR)
  • Functional Skills Level 1 (Depending on your GCSE results)
  • Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS)

Hairdressing Units:

  • 206 – Shampoo, conditioner and treat the hair and scalp (CHB11)
  • 204 – Colour and lighten hair (CH4)
  • 201 – Style and finish hair (CH1)
  • 203 – Cut hair using basic techniques (GH12)
  • 202 – Set and dress hair (CH2)
  • 207 – Develop and maintain your effectiveness at work (CHB12)
  • 205 – Advise, consult and treat hair and scalp (CHB9)
  • 210 – Plait and twist hair (CH6)
  • 213 – Fulfil salon reception duties (CHB13)

You will need a City & Guilds Level 2 Textbook and hairdressing kit, details of both will be available from your assessor on your induction.

    NVQ Level 3 Hairdressing Advanced

    After achieving your NVQ Level 2 this course is aimed at developing your creative side, concentrating on cutting, colouring and styling. At the end of the course you will be involved in either a photo shoot or hair show. Ideal for anyone who wants to be the best of the best!

    Course Criteria:

    • You must be working as an employed stylist in a salon. The course will consist of practical and theory.

    As part of your advanced apprenticeship you will cover:

    • Employment Rights and Responsibilities (ERR) (If not covered at level 2)
    • Functional Skills Level 2 (Depending on your GCSE results)
    • Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS)

    Hairdressing Units:

    • 304 – Provide hairdressing consultation services (CHB14)
    • 303 – Creatively colour and lighten hair (CH10)
    • 401 – Hair colour correction services (CH11)
    • 302 – Creatively cut hair using a combination of techniques (CH9)
    • 301 – Creatively style hair (CH8)
    • 404 – Contribute to planning and implementation of promotional activities (CHB17)
    • 402 – Develop and enhance your creative skills (CHB15)
